PRESIDENT                         JIM WILSON

Jim is a Chartered Accountant and has been in Public Practice as a Sole Trader in Angas Street, Adelaide since 1969.  He has been involved in businesses as well as assisting individuals with taxation, secretarial and accounting.  Having sold his practice in 2000 he has been continuing to practice with a very small client base.  During his professional life he served as a board member of the Adelaide Central Mission for the maximum nine years and was Chairman, Treasurer and General Manager at various times of the Adelaide Girls Choir Inc (now Young Adelaide Voices Inc.), as well as member of Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Inc.

 

 VICE PRESIDENT               KEN JOHNS 

Ken has been a member of U3A Adelaide for the past 5 years and has been very active in the Philosophy Study Group.  His professional life was in administration, business and marketing management, in some of SA’s leading businesses in the electrical and other industries. He has conducted training programs for Management Consultants, TAFE, WEA and other organizations.  Ken has also served on several committees, including the Rotary Club of Adelaide, Probus Club, and has been Past President of Rostrum Club, Adelaide Chapter.

 

SECRETARY                         RAELENE WILSDEN 

Raelene began her working life at the Electricity Trust, then moved to an Accountant's office for the next  9 years until her first child arrived.  After 11 years at home with her family, doing volunteer work in the school library, she returned to the workforce as a site secretary on several large building sites around Adelaide and the last 20 working years as Office Manager and Human Resource Officer in a large civil engineering company.   Raelene enjoys travelling with her husband, reading, painting, theatre, cooking and the many history discussions held at the U3A.  She hopes that her enjoyment of life and ability to communicate with people will be of use to the committee.

 


 

TREASURER                         RODERICK SHIRE 

Roderick is a life member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales; he is  a CPA, with 40 years experience as an accountant, finishing as Group Accountant of a billion dollar conglomerate, in charge of group consolidation and external reporting.  He has been on the committee for 4 years, particularly involved in preparing the newsletter, and also with the enrolment database and its update.

 

MINUTES SECRETARY       JUDY HARGRAVE

Judy has been a member of the Adelaide U3A for five years and on the Out and About organising group for three years.  She has been a teacher, and has worked in administration at the British Council Sydney office and at the University of Technology, Sydney.  Her interests include travel, concert-going, reading, crafts and walking the dog.

 


 

PROGRAM CO-ORDINATOR               ADRIAAN VAN DER WYST 

Adriaan has been the Program Coordinator since 2006, and shares the role of Tutor of the “For the Record” class with his co-presenter, Bob Rabbitt.  He also presents occasional lectures on topics in the science field.  Adriaan taught maths and science in SA secondary schools for eight years before working in the Education Department in Research and Planning, and then in Personnel for thirty years.  His main interests are music, philosophy, history, religion and bushwalking and golf.

 

GREG CLARK

Greg joined U3A in 2010.  In 2013 he assisted the committee in the preparation of the Conduct and Grievance policy and procedure.  He has been member of the General Committee for two years.  He was a magistrate for 30 years.  He has served as Chairman of Red Cross, The Crime Prevention Council and as a member of a Reconciliation SA.

DOROTHY HEINRICH

Dorothy’s previous working life was as an academic, lecturing and tutoring in physiology and pathophysiology.  Her main interests are in people and other cultures, which have led her on journeys with her husband to diverse places.  An interest in genealogy led her to journeys of a different kind - voyages of discovery into the past.  Dorothy enjoys writing; her family history won South Australian Genealogy and Heraldry Society's T. T. Reed Award in 2007, while a second book, 'The Man Who Hunted Whales: A tale of Kangaroo Island and a doomed ship' has also been published.

 

JULIE PHILLIPS

I am a retired Early Childhood Teacher with 30 years experience as a director. I enjoy cooking, walking, cycling and keeping fit, being with friends and family and the challenge of
learning Italian!

WEBMASTER                                         PAULINE MCCREERY                           

Former President of U3A Adelaide and current WebMaster.  She is also a Volunteer in the Office, a member of the Program Committee and tutors in computer-based fields.  Pauline had a 25 year teaching career in the Education Department, Catholic Education and TAFE, and is mainly interested in computing, travel, croquet, theatre, reading, good food and wine, as well as being a grandmother.

RUTH DUNNE

Ruth joined the U3A in 1999, the committee in 2005 and has been Secretary and a member of the Program Committee for the last 6 years, with specific responsibility for Languages.  She comes from an Education background as teacher of Humanities in a Catholic Secondary school, then Principal of a Girls' Middle School.  She also headed the Catholic Education committee looking at the rational development of Catholic school. Immediate Past President of U3A Adelaide.

AUDIO VISUAL CO-ORDINATOR              ROGER BILLS

Roger is a retired mechanical engineer.  His interests, other than U3A, include Rostrum, a Public Speaking organisation where he is especially involved with the technical side of presentations (usually PowerPoint) and the development of effective presentation skills.  At the U3A he has been involved with obtaining and improving the AV (audio visual) equipment, including Data Presenters, screens, CD players and personal amplification equipment. So his background is both technical and practical.
